All the horses came in from the field on the 2nd January, this was a shock to the system having a yard full again. They had been walking from the field from the beginning of December so the basic fitness had started. However, they were very hairy, muddy and wild. The first job was a mass clipping session which we got started on straight away.
The following day I needed to get on them all, this can be a very eventful day. However this year it all ran very smoothly and I didn't get bucked off anything. They all felt really well after there well deserved break. Just as i'm keen to get going we are hit with the bad weather and more snow than i've seen for years. Living high up in the cotswolds meant we got hit really hard. Luckily my parents have a four wheel drive which i borrowed to get the girls to the yard each day. Fortunatrly we have a walker under cover and the horses spent the next 10 days on the the walker twice a day to keep them working but as time went on they were getting very fresh and bored and I was starting to dread getting on them when the snow had melted.
Ten days later and nothing had melted and we had even more snow, I was very bored, so decided to get on a very sensible one and try going for a hack round the farm as we don't have to go on any roads. The snow was very deep in places, but didn't ball in the feet and it was great fun. I decided to try the other horses and they were all really well behaved and loved it. I only walked with a little trot but it was up hills and it stopped the horses getting so bored. This continued for a further 10 days before the snow melted and i could start using the school again but at least they had been doing some more productive work on our hills.
I managed to get the horses schooling and gave them their first jump before i headed of skiing for a week in France.
