(January to November)
Work on the yard begins at 7.30am when the horses are fed and mucked out. Horses that are still out at night will come in from the fields and the yard swept.
During the season Julie does not have time to muck out as she starts riding at 8am, and even earlier if the weather is hot.
9.00am Breakfast break for half an hour for the staff.
9.30am Start riding. This will include hacking, schooling, jumping, lunging and fast work.
1.00pm Horses are skipped out, fed and the yard is swept again.
1.30pm Staff lunch.
2.30pm Exercising of horses continues. In addition, staff are required to clean tack, groom the horses, skip out the stables and sweep and tidy the yard.
6.00pm Feed and finish.
All the horses that are not competing on a Sunday will have a rest day.
November and part of December is a time put aside for the horses to have a holiday. Julie is adamant that all her horses have time to relax and unwind from their busy eventing season. Luckily the winter turnout is hilly, so the horses maintain a certain level of natural fitness.
Mid December all the horses will come in from the fields and begin preparation work for the new season, beginning with 6 weeks of walking.
